For our fans in the U.S., Happy Thanksgiving!! And instead of our usual holiday card-style post, we’ve got a regular strip… and it’s about food (kind of). It’s more about the crazy amount of crap in our prepared foods.
I had wanted to find a way to comment on the menu stats restaurants are now required to post ever since they started doing it, when I noticed that my favorite dish at an eatery that shall remain nameless – a dish which I thought was at least relatively healthy – was chock full of insanely bad ingredients and way over-the-top when it came its nutritional deficiencies. Needless to say, I never looked at salad the same way again.
Wow…I just checked in here for the first time in almost four months, wondering how many strips had been posted since my last visit.
Apparently, not a single one. Now, it’s been almost six months without anything new.
Face it: this comic is deceased. It has expired. It has gone to meet its maker. It’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace. It’s rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. THIS IS AN EX-COMIC!

June 28, 2012 16:42 — Status: No Update. Days since contact: ~5 Months.
Still no sign of life.. the small team of us survivors are getting anxious… anxious that there’s not other live, no survivors, no cure… There has been rumors of back logs, none prevailed to be true thus far… The teams moral is low… I don’t know how much longer I can keep mine up… I just hope these dark times will come to a close…
HAHAHAHAHAHA My comment from last week still hasn’t been moderated. Even the moderators have abandoned this comic. Don’t they get notifications when there are new comments to be checked?
Regardless, I am thoroughly entertained by how dead it is around here. “Needless Excitement” indeed.
Any clues as to when there will be an update? I understand that you’re supposedly stockpiling strips to avoid having long gaps between comics but… it’s been 6 months since you posted ANYTHING…
I’d be happy with a character information sheet. Or maybe a little doodle with a note saying you’re still here.

Geez, is someone going to moderate these comments already? Perhaps I am not the only one left, but I don’t know it because of the lack of moderation in these comments.
Seriously guys, at least make an announcement if you’re going to abandon something outright. Leaving people hanging is no way to get new followers or keep the old.

So, are we to assume this is a dead webcomic then? I was looking forward to seeing where it’s gong, but 10 months and no update and no word on what’s going on?
So… It’ll be a year in about 3 months. I don’t think I’ve seen a hiatus this long before… unless it was for medical reasons. Considering there’s actually a following for this, I’d think they would have updated by now. I’ve read through the archive at least 5 times so far, just waiting for something new. The story’s good, but it’s only progressed a week in… over 2 years. Now THAT is what I call dedication to your work.
And, almost eight months after promising new strips soon, nothing…sorry, but Hot Mess seems to now be a prime example of Epic Fail in the webcomic world.

Would it kill one of the staff to even let us know what’s going on? Should we give up and quit checking? The worst thing about when webcomics die is when we get no word from the artist

This was posted November of last year… it’s now August. Is this comic officially dead? Did I just go through the archive for nothing more than very beginning of an actual plot?
To everyone getting upset about how they haven’t updated, and how they’ve “lost a reader”- the artist did just get hired as part of a new group recently. She probably doesn’t have time for this anymore- she wasn’t receiving any pay for this comic, whereas she is now part of a legitimate group that pays her. Give them a break guys. They have to eat.

Here is is, nearly a year later, and this comic has still yet to update. I’m assuming that means that this comic is no longer “on hiatus” but is simply dead… which is a damn shame because, as a webcomic junkie, this is one of the better webcomics I have read. Mind you, I read about 40 webcomics on a regular basis and am continually finding more. I wish this one would update, though based on how long it has been, I doubt that will be happening?
