Mind Your Business…

Diana is humble, so she won’t post the links to all the other work she does… but I’m here to do it for her :)  This is a fantastic My Wingman Diana column that really hit home for me.  No, I haven’t been through the situation personally, but I might as well have written the question as I’ve had a handful of friends go through something similar - apparently, I hang out with a bunch of hopeless romantics…

Hi Diana,

So please bear with me here, this is going to be long but important. My best friend is a hopeless romantic; he’s the type that he NEEDS a relationship. His girlfriend of the past six months has proven herself to be a psycho. In the same breath she will say that she loves him, and that she needs space. She wants him to be at her house every day and at least once a week says he’s smothering her. The other day she said he’s allowed to “freebies” with girls. I feel stupid asking because, unlike my friend I have brain cells, but do you think MAYBE this is a sign from his crazy girlfriend?  Read on…

Attack of the Spambot!

by Geoff on March 1, 2011 at 3:47 pm

This is what a spambot looks like. In my head.

I’m sure lots of you run your own websites, but I have to admit, this is my first.  And what I’ve discovered is that with increased traffic comes annoying little things called spambots.  I’ve heard the term before, but I had no idea how much they could drive you crazy.  Yesterday I had to manually delete about 150 messages that were advertisements for some really gross stuff.  Plus, I think they slow the site down a little, which stinks.  So to all of you out there running sites and dealing with this very same problem, I salute you.

Miss Independent

When I saw this video on The Frisky.com today I knew I had to share it with you.  This little lady has such a strong sense of self at only 5 years old!  She is an honorary HOT MESS!  It is highly important that parents instill independence within their children; especially their daughters.  My father always told me that I would have to work harder to do as well as my brother.  He encouraged me to go after all of my goals and never said, “Go marry a doctor.”  It is because of my dad that I’m fiercely independent and self sufficient.  I’m happy to see that my generation of women have broken even more boundaries in order for the next to achieve even greater accomplishments.

Acting like she owns the place

This happens all the time – and I’m only bringing it up because it just happened again.  My pug, Izzy, just pooped the floor.  She knows she did something wrong, but instead of acting sorry, she gives me one of these looks, as if to say that somehow it’s my fault and I’m the jerk:

Don't mess with her. She's got the crazy eyes.

Diana is my wingman…

Actually, now she’s everyone’s wingman!  I’d like to introduce you all to Diana’s brand new blog “My Wingman Diana“!

On it, Diana takes reader love advice questions and answers them daily.  They had a soft launch of the blog last month, and they’ve really been picking up steam.  So now you know, when Diana’s not here, that’s what she’s doing!

Once a week, we’ll check in over there to give you all a taste of what’s happening.  Today’s advice is all about second chances… and when not to give them!

FOOL ME ONCE

Dear Diana & Dr. Archer,
I broke up with my boyfriend two months ago because he was unfaithful. Last week he showed up with a date at the restaurant where I worked and specifically asked for me as his waitress. At first I was upset, but decided to handle this professionally and not to show that it bothered me. But then, after dinner he left a rose and a seven-page note for me expressing his undying love and apologizing! What should I do?
JD

Diana Says:

Hi JD,

I can understand your confusion but ask yourself would you ever be able to trust this man again? Read on…

I knew I wasn’t the only one who thinks pugs are weird: A brief review of PUGS: GOD’S LITTLE WEIRDOS

by Geoff on February 13, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Share

This isn’t the big pug post I had wanted to write today, but it’ll do for now.  Last week after writing Pug Off! I ran a quick search and found a delightful surprise – someone had already written a book on the subject:

I don’t know much about it’s author Dave Kellet, but after I tracked down a copy of his PUGS: God’s Little Weirdos, I can tell you he’s an incredibly talented and insightful writer/illustrator with a wicked funny bone.  I think every panel contains a “pug-ism” with which I am intimately familiar – and often Kellet turned it on it’s head and made me laugh.

The book itself isn’t self-contained, but rather a compilation of Pug-related strips that are pulled from his daily webcomic, Sheldon.  As a whole, they work well, and while I don’t know if they were put in chronological order the ordering and flow kept a nice pace.

You can order, or just check out a few sample pages, here, and if you own a pug, this is absolutely a must have.
