Emily Chan, artistic mastermind behind the look of Hot Mess, created another series called StupidFox (as if most of you didn’t know). And now, that silly StupidFox has his own site. Personally, I think her work there is brilliant, elegant, and consistently funny.
You can see it HERE!

I was digging around in the files this weekend, and came across this blast from the past – it’s the first time Emily had drawn the characters together in a group shot. I remember being really happy the first time I saw this. Some of those characters we’ve yet to meet, but we’ll see them soon.
Which characters would you like to see more of? Which of the ones yet-to-be-introduced are you most excited about? You can check out the characters page for their names – though we’re still working on most of their profiles.
Ok, so thanks to you, we’ve shot up in the rankings (we’ve cracked the top 140 as of this writing). You can help us with our (very modest) goal of breaking the top 100 by just clicking on the button below. Even if you’ve voted before, remember, you can vote once a day.
Also, Emily posted an exclusive Scooziecat sketch on Facebook.
And finally, don’t forget there’s still plenty of time to enter the Contest… take a look at Category 1 (personal avatars) and Category 2 (riffs on the Hot Mess characters)! We’d love to see your entry!
Have a great weekend!
UPDATE 2/11/2011: Ok, I think we’re about done for now – I didn’t get quite as much changed as I’d like, but then again, I’m an endless tinkerer. I do have lots of plans for Hot Mess 2.0, though!
Ok, this is going to be nerve-wracking for me, but we’re going through a slight upgrade to the site. All links should work, but for just a bit the layout might be a tad funky. Please bear with us! New content will continue to be posted!
Ok, so the title of this post might be in bad taste, considering that the rest of the world is seemingly in the deepest blizzard we’ve had in years. But for me, this weird (and WAY early) burst of warm weather is always a double edged sword. It’s nice to finally get out and get some sun, but on the other hand, here in Los Angeles at least, the first bits of warm weather invariably bring with it mighty gusts of Santa Anna winds… which means lots of dust in the air… which means my sinuses will try to kill me.
I’ll still be posting daily, but probably a little lighter than usual. And for those who care, I’ll probably be doing another Pug Post this weekend.
Lots of site news this week, and a few changes to Hot Mess that I can’t wait to tell you about!
The first thing to mention is that we’re going to be updating more often. For now, we’ll be keeping to the same comic schedule, but you’re going to see lots more blogging from Diana and myself.
Second, we’re going to announce the winners of the Hot Mess art contest this upcoming Wednesday! We’ll post the winning entry in the comic space on the site.
And there’s something else I want to share:
It is impossible to be around a Pug and not instantly be in a better mood.
Just look at this:
Seriously, just look at that.
That’s Izzy. She is, to put is gently, the weirdest dog I’ve ever known. I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old, and ever since she was a tiny puppy, she’s been a food obsessed, attention hogging, Mogwai-looking spaz. In fact, until the age of 1, every time anyone would pick her up, she’d get so excited that she’d violently wiggle, making it impossible for most people to hold her longer and a few seconds. Really self-defeating, if you think about it. On top of that, she’s oddly skinny, especially for a Pug. She used to go on 5k runs with me – a very un-puglike thing to do. Instead of barking, she whines in very animated, long-winded diatribes. She’s also kind of a bully. Oh, and she can stick her ears up like a bat when she wants to look like she’s paying attention to you.
So, anyway, as a thank you to all the pugs out there who make everyone they meet that much happier, I’m going to occasionally post some pug-related news.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi Gang,
Like I said it’s a big week. Read below for Diana’s first blog, and soon we’ll have her own page up and running, and as you see above, there’s a brand new strip.
But more importantly, we’ve just set up our emails! Not that you’ll want to email me, as I am uninteresting, but you can if you want (geoff@hotmesscomic.com).
But even better, you can email Diana at diana@hotmesscomic.com with all your relationship or life questions. And if you want to email any of the characters in our little world, they have emails too! Just email them at their character name (like anna@hotmesscomic.com, zoey@hotmesscomic.com, slumper@hotmesscomic.com, and so on), and I’m sure they can take time out of their busy schedules to answer.
Okay, I’m off to write some more strips, so enjoy the comic, and know that we’d love to hear from you!
Hi. I’m Diana aka Anna aka a HOT MESS : ) For many people, high school was one of their most trying times. I was one of the many. There were days when I didn’t want to face my frenemy, my crush, or my Algebra teacher. Seriously, another pop quiz on algorithms…ick! I wish I had a manual to guide me through the sticky situations of girl on girl crime, flirting with a cute guy, or making new friends. Well, I wanted to make my wish a reality for a new generation. Consider my experiences your helpful reminder that we’ve all been there and that there is a solution to what may seem the biggest drama of your life.
Hi everyone, hope you had a great weekend. Just wanted to let you know that this week, we’ve not only got our regularly scheduled, brand new strips debuting on Tues and Thurs, but we’re also starting up Diana’s column! She’s been working really hard in preparation for connecting directly with you, and we all hope you enjoy it! Check back soon, as it will be up at any moment.
